Waste Management at Katathani: Turning Waste into Value for a Sustainable Future

“Mindful waste management is the foundation of true sustainability.”
At Katathani Phuket Beach Resort, we are committed to building sustainability in every dimension—guided by responsibility and thoughtful decisions in every step of our operations.

💚 Because we believe that sustainability is something we all share responsibility for. Our goal is not only to “eliminate waste,” but to continuously create value from waste, ensuring a healthier environment for future generations.

One of the core principles of this commitment is “Think Before Use.” We carefully select materials and products, avoiding those that cannot be reused, and prioritizing those that are recyclable, biodegradable, or long-lasting. This reduces unnecessary waste and ensures that resources are used wisely and efficiently.

We’ve developed a resort-wide waste management system—ensuring that every part of our operation contributes to environmental protection.

Reusable & Recyclable Waste

Following the 3Rs: Recycle / Reuse / Reduce, we separate waste at the source—guest rooms, service areas, and offices. Each recyclable item is cleaned, sorted, and delivered to certified recycling centers or community-based reuse programs.
✅ In the past year, this process generated over THB 506,876 in value, representing 46.83% of our total waste.

Organic Waste Turned into Fertilizer

Organic waste—such as food scraps, leaves, and grass—accounts for approximately 41.38% of total waste. This material is processed in our on-site Zero Waste Organic Fertilizer Facility to produce natural compost, which is used to nourish the resort’s gardens throughout the year. We also use Effective Microorganisms (EM) to enhance soil health and plant vitality.
✅ In total, we produced over 16,059 kilograms of compost and EM, valued at approximately THB 160,680.

General Waste

General waste that cannot be reused or recycled accounted for 12.26%, but this year, we reduced it further to just 9.56%. We follow clear waste treatment protocols and successfully reduced landfill-bound waste by 163,778 kilograms per year.

Hazardous Waste

Hazardous waste—such as chemicals, batteries, and fluorescent lights—makes up just 0.1% of total waste. These materials are safely handled and disposed of through certified and environmentally responsible processes.

Our Green Hotel

We don’t just sort waste—we track, measure, and evaluate data continuously, ensuring that our system is not only responsible, but also improves over time.

Because for us… waste management is not just about sorting properly.

It’s about building systems that deliver real impact and continuously evolve—for a cleaner, greener tomorrow.
